Group therapy at Verbatim or your organisation

If you are interested in group therapy but cannot see a group that would suit you, please get in touch as we are keen to develop more groups.

CBT Group for Young People

The group is for young people of similar ages and presenting problems where CBT interventions are seen as the best outcome predictor.

  • 12 Week group
    1.5 Hour sessions
    Limited group size
    Facilitated by two experienced therapists

    Each session has a heading/ theme. Within this there is flexibility to explore issues arising both for the individual and the group.

    The headings/ themes are:
    1) What is CBT?
    2) Identifying the problem
    3) Self-esteem
    4) The problem with negative thoughts
    5) The problem with negative feelings
    6) The problem with negative behaviour
    7) NATS
    8) Disobeying the ‘woulds’ and ‘shoulds’
    9) Exploring core beliefs
    10) Discovering our superpower
    11) Learning self-acceptance
    12) Endings, group reflections, and goodbye. The awarding of certificates of completion.

    • Referrer (School, Organisation or Family) completes the referral form.

    • Verbatim get in touch to arrange an informal initial consultation where the child and referrer can meet with one of the therapists to discuss their referral in more detail and to understand their aims and hopes of the group.

    • The therapists review the referrals and form a group based on suitability and aims/ hopes.

    • Verbatim contact the referrer with proposed dates/ times.

    • The group is formed. Participants are required to sign a contract to say that the will attend all 12 sessions, that they will participate in the group activities, and complete the homework. If a participant does not complete the task or attend a session, they will have a follow up call/ conversation with one of the therapists to consider how to move forward.
